Would a 97' GM 454 eat the camshaft with the lifters?

I have to replace the lifters in a 97' GMC 2500 and I was wondering if I need a new camshaft as well. I’m assuming yes because of how they wear but I don’t know a whole lot about hydraulic-roller stuff.

Roller cams don’t wear the same way flat tappet cams do. I’ve reused roller lifters on new cams and used new roller lifters on old cams. You shouldn’t have an issue just replacing the lifters unless the cam has gone flat.

I think I would pull the cam to inspect it for a flat lobe, unless a lifter just wont pump up anymore there is a reason for it to fail usually a flat cam or maybe wear in rocker or you bent a pushrod

Why are you replacing the lifters? Noise?

Roller cams do not wear like flat tappets do. This is why you don’t need ZDDP and break-in is not high stress.
